Seasonal Climate
In spring, Abashiri gradually gets warmer as the snow melts. Cherry blossoms bloom late, with the best time to see them being around early May. Towards the end of spring, flowers bloom in full glory, and the fresh greenery is a beautiful season.
Summer is relatively cool and has low humidity, making it comfortable to live in. The influence of the Sea of Okhotsk brings refreshing breezes. It is the perfect season for sightseeing and outdoor activities.
Abashiri in autumn is beautiful with autumn leaves, especially in October when the mountains take on a colorful display. The days are comfortable, but the nights can get very cold, so it's important to take precautions against the cold.
The winters are bitterly cold, and the biggest attraction is being able to see drift ice. The Sea of Okhotsk freezes over from January to February, creating a world of below freezing temperatures. There is a lot of snow, so tourists need to take precautions against the cold.
